Design Blog: Elegant Wine Cellar and Wine Wall Niche

The Concept

Our clients in Dallas, Texas wanted to update an existing, understairs bar area and entertaining niche into a temperature-controlled wine storage space. This project is a stunning example of making the most of the footprint with an eye-catching and efficient wine cellar design.

The Design

The outer wine wall niche has a capacity of +/- 136 bottles with a mix of label-forward and angled display rows. The design for this wine display wall includes a pouring station in the niche, perfect for decanting and serving wine in the entertaining area. The understairs wine room has a capacity of +/- 376 bottles in a label-forward configuration. The back wall of the wine room has rows that are 3-deep, and the side wall has 4-deep rows to maximize the capacity and use of the space.

 The Features

The wine racks chosen for this wine cellar are from our Signature Collection. The posts and bottle rods are black anodized aluminum, and the end brackets feature black stained walnut millwork. In the wine wall niche, the client selected a beautiful silver mosaic tile on the back and side walls to illuminate the wine bottles. The existing wood cabinet and stone countertop were left intact and insulated to ensure proper vapor seal.

Inside the wine room, matte white ceramic tile was utilized, as a striking feature to add movement to the space.

LED strip lighting was mounted to the back of the posts in the wine niche and wine cellar as well as LED lighting along the base of the racking in the wine cellar.

We incorporated a keyed lock in both the wine wall niche doors as well as the wine cellar glass door. The locks are a matte black finish to match the wine racking and door ladder pulls. Frameless tempered glass was utilized on both sides of the wine rooms.

We installed a Wine Guardian DS050 split system that provides cooling to both areas controlled by one thermostat.
