Design Blog: Seamless Wine Wall Integration

The Concept

Clients in Houston, Texas were looking to replace an outdated, built-in buffet with a wine wall to store and display their wine collection. We utilized half of the space for temperature-controlled wine display while leaving the other half for the homeowners to use for entertaining, with a counter, shelving and updated cabinetry.

The Design

Our clients wine wall includes two areas for wine storage. The top portion has double-deep designer wine racks, in a matte black finish, with a label-forward design, and a capacity of 110 bottles. The lower portion is new white oak cabinetry, with adjustable shelves, that can be used for décor as well as bulk wine storage to increase the capacity to over 290 bottles. Wine racks and bulk wine storage

The Features

An additional bonus we included into this wine wall was a humidrawer lined with Spanish cedar in the lower cabinetry. The white oak utilized in the space matches a mantel and other light woods used throughout the open concept living area.

The quartz countertop in the wine wall matches the countertop in the kitchen and on the adjacent bar. Alamo Random stone was used on the back wall to add interest without taking away from the wine as the focal point.

We incorporated an LED strip in the soffit to light the space and finished the ceiling with white oak to blend in with the space. The wine cooling system is placed out of sight in the attic and frameless glass doors help ensure proper temperature and humidity is maintained. Matte Black pivot hinges and ladder style handles on the doors match the wine racks that were selected to tie the wine wall display together.

This seamless integration is a great example of updating an existing space with a wine wall that is both practical and functional.
